My motherland burns: Again

The Mandal Ghost is back. After burning the entire country nearly more than a decade back, the politicians are back to playing their dirty game with the lives of lakhs of innocent youth, and the students are again up against the disciminatory policies of the government.

A lot has been said by both sides for and against the reservations. But a few poiints worth noting:

1. Social Equality is required for the country to develop fully.
2. Reservations is NO means of alleviating social discrimination or economic poverty or lack of education among certain sections of the society.
3. Reservations, on the other hand, enhance social discrimination.
4. Reservations, on the other hand, also ensure that the much-known trickle down effect of economic growth, is limited to the top few strata of the society.

A few points that the government must consider before going ahead with the move:

1. Is India essentially a backward society, and a proud one at that too! I mean, should I be proud to say that "Yeah, man, I'm an Indian. 70% of us are OBCs."
2. Is the government serious in its efforts to retain the best talent in the country? I mean, if moves like these continue, why would a sane individual ever work in this country, where even his job or next promotion or his kid's education is not ensured, and marred by 50% reservation in each insitute. Why should I stay in this country?
3. Government talks about IIT education being subsidised. C'mon man, more than us, it is the education of SC/ST students that is subsidised. They do not pay any tuition fees. Even their mess food bills are paid by General Category students. And I'm sure (though generalizing), that their parents do not even pay the complete Income Tax. Who the hell then pays for them? And now, we must help them by sacrificing our seats even! WHAT A FORM OF JUSTICE! Good. I guess most sane youths of this nation will get better justice far away from their motherland!

The government, the propogants of reservations and the old polticians of this nation have to realise that reservations is an idea which is much past its prime. It is like a bad apple which is spoiling the whole bunch. They must realise that as responsible youth, we are for social equality, and they must also realise that we, as educated youth, also know that reservations will never ever lead to social equality.

I really hope that the fire that has been ignited by a misplaced conception of the rulers, does lead to a mass youth movement, and is followed by an active youth participation in the nation's politics. Only then can this nation hope for a bright future. What can otherwise happen to a country that does not even realise the needs of its citizens!
